MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Dan Snyder is no longer the owner of the Washington Commanders. At an NFL owners’ meeting in Minneapolis on Thursday, July 20, NFL owners unanimously voted to approve the team's sale from the Snyder family to a group led by Josh Harris, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Harris, one of the current Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owners, and the rest of his group purchased the Washington Commanders for a staggering 6.05 billion dollars. Dan Snyder and Harris entered an exclusive agreement back in May, but the NFL’s finance committee wanted the original offer adjusted to align with NFL guidelines.

Harris’ group purchasing the team includes NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, Sports owner David Blitzer, and billionaire Mitchell Rales. The sale ends Snyder’s over two-decade ownership of the team. Snyder originally bought the Commanders back in 1999 for $800 million.
Back in 2020, a report from the Washington Post accused the Commanders’ organization of several instances of sexual harassment from former employees. The NFL investigated similar claims in July 2021 and fined the team $10 million.
Snyder’s legacy includes changing the name of the organization from the Redskins in 2020 to the Washington Football team. Two seasons later in 2022, the Commanders was settled upon as Washington’s new name.
