ARLINGTON— One of the best offensive linemen in the NFL is considering not showing up to training camp.
According to Adam Schefter, current Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin is considering not showing up to training camp due to his contract. Martin is apparently unhappy with his current salary and believes he is “woefully underpaid relative to the market”. Martin is set to make about $7 million less than the top paid guard in the NFL.
Martin signed a seven-year, $93.41 million contract in 2018.
This is an easy one as the Cowboys should back up the truck to Martin’s residence. He is a six-time All-Pro offensive lineman and has only allowed 12.5 sacks his entire career and has 19 penalties, including two years with no penalties.
Martin was drafted in 2014 by the Dallas Cowboys and many fans were upset by the pick, believing the Cowboys should have taken Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. The Cowboys made the right pick, selecting the tackle turned guard out of Notre Dame.
Also, while it won’t play into contract negotiations, Martin was just named to the 99 club in the Madden football game, something a guard hasn’t done since 2003. All that does is shows how much Martin is respected in the NFL by fans, coach, players, and front offices.
Martin has missed just nine games in his nine-year NFL career and has either been had All-Pro or Pro Bowl honors in eight of those nine. His six career selections to the All-Pro First Team is tied for third most ever for a guard in the NFL.
The Cowboys have a number of contracts coming up but paying one of the best offensive guards in NFL history should be a no-brainer.
