SEATTLE, WA — The Texas Rangers found out on Friday, Jul 7, that it will be the first team in 47 years to have five position players start in the 2023 MLB All-Star Game. The Rangers Adolis Garcia was picked on Friday to join the American League lineup as an injury replacement bringing the Rangers' total to five starters.
Adolis Garcia replaces the New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge in the lineup. In Tuesday's lineup, Garcia joins catcher Jonah Heim, second baseman Marcus Semien, shortstop Core Seager, and third baseman and former Texas Tech Red Raider Josh Jung. The AL rounds out its lineup with Tampa Bay’s first basemen, Yandy Diaz and outfielder Randy Arozarena, and the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani and Baltimore Orioles, Austin Hays.
The only other teams to start that many players in the All-Star Game were the New York Yankees in 1939 and the Cincinnati Reds in 1956, 1957, and 1976. MLB All-Star Week began on July 5 and runs through the All-Star Game slated for Tuesday, July 11, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. First pitch is at 7 p.m. The game can be watched on Fox.
