DENVER, CO — Former Packers Quarterback, current New York Jets Quarterback, and NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers made headlines again recently. At a psychedelics conference in Denver, Colorado, last week, Rodgers spoke to podcaster Aubrey Marcus about his use of mushrooms. Rodgers, an advocate for psychedelics, shared his experience with ayahuasca. He described taking ayahuasca with his teammates as "radically life-changing" and claimed many other pro athletes have reached out to him.
"I found a deeper self-love," said Rodgers. "It unlocked that whole world of what I'm really here to do is to connect, to connect with those guys, and to make those bonds and to inspire people."
Rodgers, who will be at the helm of the Jets this season, left the Green Bay Packers organization after 18 seasons to join the Jets. The two parties’ differences finally came to a head this offseason after Rodgers attended a “darkness retreat” for the better part of a week to consider retirement. He appeared on Pat McAfee’s show and announced his decision to leave Green Bay. The former MVP already has Vegas projecting the Jets as seventh in the NFL in terms of odds to win the Super Bowl +1600. Before the Rodgers trade, they were listed at +2500.
Rodgers continues to support the use of psilocybin and ayahuasca. He even credited his back-to-back MVP seasons to the use of psychedelics. The conference, put on by a psychedelic advocacy group, happened just months after voters in Colorado made the decision to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms. A growing cultural acceptance in some areas of the country for these types of substances may see other states join Colorado in the future.
