NASHVILLE, TN — The 2023 NHL Draft concluded on Thursday, June 29. At the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, the Dallas Stars selected a new crop of prospects to address the shortcomings in their recent playoff defeat against the eventual and current Stanley Cup Champion Las Vegas Knights. Stars GM Jim Nill traded the Stars’ 1st-round pick for Nils Lundkvist before the ‘22-’23 season began, so Dallas did not participate in the draft before Thursday.
STARS DRAFT SELECTIONS
- 2nd Round - Pick 61 - Tristan Bertucci
- 3rd Round - Pick 79 - Brad Gardiner
- 4th Round - Pick 125 - Aram Minnetian
- 5th Round - Pick 157 - Arno Tiefensee
- 6th Round - Pick 189 - Angus Macdonell
- 7th Round - Pick 221- Sebastian Bradshaw
Dallas made it to the Western Conference Finals before falling to Las Vegas in six games. While Dallas competed well against the Champions, some of the losses, including the elimination Game 6, were completely lopsided. If anything, the Stars need an injection of youth into their franchise, and this draft has plenty of that.
The Dallas Stars made a trade on Thursday. To begin the draft, Dallas had picks in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds. They sent a 3rd rounder and a 6th rounder in the 2024 draft to move into the 3rd round of this year's draft, taking OHL Center Brad Gardiner. Overall, the Stars drafted to improve all-around. They did not lean heavily into any position in particular and continue to be a well-rounded franchise, evidenced by GM Jim Nill winning General Manager of the Year on Wednesday night.
