TAMPA, FL — Free Agent running back and ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneer Leonard Fournette escaped a potentially life-threatening situation on Tuesday. On his Instagram account, Fournette posted a video of his SUV completely charred and burned out on the side of the highway.
Watch the video below:
“Man, it was one of those days,” Fournette said on his Instagram. “But I would like to thank God, my car caught fire while I was driving, but I am still blessed.”
Fournette, 28, was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in March. The veteran told the Tampa Bay Times that his release was at his request and that there was “no bad blood” between himself and the organization. Fournette hinted that Tom Brady’s retirement played a role in his request for release.
He rushed for 668 yards in 16 games last season. He also caught 73 passes for 525 yards and six total touchdowns in 2022. His exit from the team came one year after the Bucs signed the running back to a three-year deal worth $21 million and an extra $3 million in incentives. He has rushed for 4,478 yards in 79 career games (61 starts) over six seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2017-19) and Tampa. He has 2,219 career receiving yards and 41 total touchdowns (34 rushing, seven receiving).
Fournette joined free agent running backs Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliot this offseason as premiere backs without a home. None of these NFL stars have, as of yet, signed a deal with a new team.
