Republicans Bury the Democrats at the Congressional Baseball Game

WASHINGTON, D.C. — United States Representative August Pfluger (TX-11) and San Angelo native helped lead the Republicans to a dominant victory over the Democrats at Wednesday night’s Congressional Baseball Game. At Nationals Park in Washington D.C., the Republicans handed the Democrats their third-straight loss with an overwhelming victory, 16-6.

Rep. Greg Steube (FL-17) was the star in Wednesday night’s game. Just months after a fall from a ladder broke his pelvis, punctured a lung, and gave him a concussion, the Congressman put on a show. Wearing a MAGA hat signed by President Donald Trump, Steube started the game on the mound for the Republicans and pitched four innings, and gave up five runs. However, he was the most impressive at the plate. Steube blew open the game for the Republicans with the hardest-hit ball in the game.

A line drive blast to left-center bounced over the fence and gave the Congressman a ground-rule double. Freshman Sen. Erick Schmitt (R-Mo.) crushed a ball in the third inning for a bases-loaded triple to add to the explosive offense on the evening, and the Republicans ran away with it early.

Pfluger, the MVP of last year’s contest, pitched the final three innings for the Republicans. In one of the evening’s funnier moments, Pfluger beaned the Democrat’s Don Davis (NC-01) with a pitch. In classic Major League Baseball fashion, Davis “charged the mound” before he gave Pfluger a hug.

The San Angelo native closed out the game for the Republicans to earn the 16-6 victory. Check out the final out here. The announced attendance at Wednesday’s game was 26,653, which helped raise $1.8 million for 44 charities in the Washington, DC, area.

In a time of intense political rivalry that has spilled over into riots and militia activity over the past few years, there's nothing more conforting than the knowledge that our representatives are playing slap-ass on the field and showering together in a manly show of camaraderie.

"Good game." Tee hee hee.
