WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks baseball team headed off to the State Tournament on Thursday morning. At around 9 a.m., Wall’s community lined both sides of Old Highway 87 to send off the Hawks’ team bus at the Wall High School and headed for Round Rock. Wall’s old fire engine blared its sirens as it escorted the team bus out of town.
The Hawks arrive in Round Rock today to prepare for their State Semifinal matchup on Friday, June 9, against the Corpus Christi London Pirates. The game will be played at Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock at 12 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks face their most daunting challenge yet as the Pirates were last year’s state champions and bring another solid team to the state tournament.
As previously reported, Head Coach Jason Schniers leads the Hawks into the State Tournament for the final time. Schniers plans to retire from coaching at the conclusion of this season and gave his thoughts on the process in an interview on June 5.
In another interview with San Angelo LIVE!, players Luke Kemp, Dylan Gidney, and Gunnar Dillard also spoke about the team’s mindset heading into the game. Luke Kemp said he’s ready for the ball and will pitch against London on Friday. Check out the full interview with the players here.
If the Hawks defeat the Pirates on Friday, then they move into the State Championship game on Saturday. They would play the winners of Boyd and Maypearl at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The Hawks won the state championship back in 2019 and look to add another State Championship Trophy to their name this weekend.
