San Angelo's Superstar Speller Competes in Final Scripps Spelling Bee

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo's superstar spelling bee competitor has participated in his final Scripps Spelling Bee.

According to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, after three rounds of correct answers, Akash Vukoti, 14, of San Angelo, has been eliminated from the competition.

The three correct answers were spelling the words "Lilliputian" and "Illustrative" correctly, as well as stating the definition of "Mochi."

The word that Vukoti missed was "graisse." Instead, he spelled the word as "graice." Despite the mistake, Vukoti finished 74th out of the 231 contestants.

In 2022, Vukoti visited the studios of San Angelo LIVE!:

Vukoti began his spelling bee career in 2016. At the time, Vukoti was the youngest contestant to ever make it to the spelling bee.

Throughout his career, he placed tied for 46th in 2016, 51st in 2019, 72nd in 2021, 89th in 2022, and 323rd in 2018.

Now that his spelling bee career has come to an end, Vukoti says that he will be joining his high school debate team.
