SONORA— A Sonora High School sophomore has won state in golf and made history.
Sonora’s Dylan Ford won first place at the Texas state golf tournament, something that no other male athlete has done at Sonora.
“My dad started playing when I was five,” Ford said, “From there I just started swinging.”
When Ford stated getting tournament wins under his belt, he started to notice that golf could take him somewhere. Ford isn’t some one-year wonder; last year, he placed fourth at state, the same place the Sonora Boys’ Team would take this year.
“It’s just always been a dream of mine to win state,” Ford said.
Ford is happy to have brough back the gold for his school and his community.
Ford shot a 69 on both days of state for a total score of 138. Usually, par is a score of 72 on 18-holes of golf so to shoot a 69 on both days, that means Ford would be three under par. As a team, Sonora placed fourth overall with a combined score of 639. The Sonora Boys Golf team consists of Ford, Weston Fisher, Jacob Perez, Caleb Sanchez, and Raul Arredondo.
