Two Angelo State Rambelles Receive Postseason Honors

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Two Angelo State Rambelles received postseason honors over the past week. Two of the softball team’s seniors, Paxton Scheurer and Ashlyn Lerma, earned honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for their success both on the field and in the classroom.

Scheurer, from Mansfield, Tx, earned her master’s degree this spring in Industrial Organizational Psychology. The 2022 LSC Fred Jacoby Academic Athlete of the Year, Scheurer earns her second CoSIDA/CSC All-District selection after earning Academic All-American Second Team honors last spring. 

In Softball this season, Scheurer hit .329 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs; she slugged .653 and was named to the All-LSC First Team and LSC All-Academic Team for the second successive year. Scheurer ends her ASU career with 43 home runs, third-most in program history, and her .678 slugging percentage is the second-highest in program history.

Highland Village native, Ashlyn Lerma, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Finance and is currently pursuing her MBA. The Rambelles’ second baseman made the All-LSC First Team, the LSC All-Academic Team, and the LSC Gold Glove Team for each of the past three seasons. Like her teammate Scheurer, Lerma earns her second-straight CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District selection after earning Academic All-American Second Team honors last spring.

Leadoff hitter for the Rambelles, Lerma hit .372 with a .480 on-base percentage. She drew 34 walks, the most on the team, and stole 58 bases, tying ASU's single-season record. Lerma finishes her ASU career with 146 stolen bases, the second-most in ASU history, and is seventh all-time with a .472 on-base percentage. Lerma is also tenth for games played, making 225 appearances for the Rambelles.

Lerma also made the headlines with two more honors this season. On May 10, she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Central Region First team. The postseason honors keep rolling in as Lerma was also named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-South Central Region First Team, the organization announced early on Tuesday, May 16.
