Cowboys Grab Relentless Edge in Fourth Round

ARLINGTON— The 2023 NFL Draft has entered the third day and the Cowboys have bolstered their defense yet again.

The Dallas Cowboys have made three selections in the 2023 NFL Draft. Defensive tackle Mazi Smith from Michigan in the first round, tight end Luke Schoonmaker from Michigan, and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown from Texas. In the fourth round, the Dallas Cowboys selected Viliami Fehoko, a defensive end from San Jose State with the 129th overall pick.

Fehoko was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and has the weight and length the Cowboys wanted. This is a Dan Quinn pick, who was really excited about the pick jumping around the Cowboy’s war room. Fehoko can play inside and on the edge.

He has great hands and is very technical and has a non-stop motor. Fehoko made plays in the backfield as well with at least 12.5 tackles for loss in each of the last three season including 19 last year and nine sacks last season, 23 overall. He doesn’t make just backfield plays with 5 forced fumbles and 11 passes defended. Fehoko can play inside and on the edge.

Fehoko wasn’t just the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year last year but in 2020 and 2021 was a first team All-Mountain West.

The bad with this pick is his age as he will be 24 as a rookie and was penalized quite a bit last year.

He also has NFL bloodlines with Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea. His relentless motor and handwork are very good, and Quinn had a good visit with him as well.

The fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds are still to come and the Cowboys have a pick in each round to grab maybe a cornerback, backup quarterback, running back, and wide receiver.
