Cowboys Add Offensive Weapon in Second Round

ARLINGTON— The Dallas Cowboys had the board fall perfectly in the first round of the NFL Draft but not so much in the second round.

In the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft the Cowboys took Mazi Smith, a massive defensive tackle from Michigan. At 58th overall, the Cowboys double dipped from Michigan and selected tight end Luke Schoonmaker.

Tight ends came off the board quickly in the beginning of the second round. Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer, Iowa’s Sam LaPorta, Oregon State’s Luke Musgrave all came off before the Cowboy’s selection. Schoonmaker does something really well that the Cowboys love and that’s block.

At 6’5”, 251 lbs., Schoonmaker is a difference maker at the tight end position for the Cowboys and had a really well-rounded game. He can line up all over the offense and again, is a good blocking tight end.

Now the bad thing is he will be 25 during the beginning of the season. He had to go back to high school due to mono and a ruptured spleen. On top of that, he has dealt with some injuries throughout his college career.

The third round is coming up and the Cowboys currently hold the 90th overall pick and could look at linebacker, running back, and offensive line.
