ARLINGTON— The Dallas Cowboys exercised the fifth-year option Thursday on wide receiver Ceedee Lamb that is placed in all first-round player contracts.
First round players are eligible for a four-year contract with the fifth-year option that can be picked up by the team. The fifth year is also fully guaranteed, so Lamb will be receiving $17.99 million in 2024 unless a new contract is agreed to beforehand. With Lamb making the Pro Bowl last season, his salary for the option was higher due to the collective bargaining agreement.
Lamb fell into the Cowboys' laps at 18th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and is entering his fourth year with the team. Last year, he had career high is receptions, yards, and touchdowns, going 107-1,359-9 in those categories respectively. He also had to step up after the Cowboys traded Amari Cooper last offseason.
The Cowboys will likely get a new deal done with Lamb before the 2024 season as they will have to make a choice on cornerback Trevon Diggs, who enters the last year on his rookie contract.
