ANDREWS, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats Soccer team traveled to Andrews on Thursday, March 23, to battle the El Paso Eastlake Falcons at 1 p.m. Eastlake controlled possession throughout the game, but the Bobcats never backed down. El Paso simply outgunned the ‘Cats, and though Central built momentum in the second half, they simply ran out of time. Eastlake defeated the Bobcats 3-1.
Central found themselves on their heels early. The Falcons showed speed and skill with the ball as they kept possession in the Bobcats’ final third of the field. Eastlake scored their first goal within the first 20 minutes of kickoff after the ‘Cats missed a clearance near their goal. The Falcons punished that mistake and led at the half 1-0.
“We can’t make mistakes against good teams like that, and they made us pay for that mistake in the first half,” Head Coach Tony Vu said after the game.
The ‘Cats fell further behind in the second half after another goal from Eastlake. Central finally turned their fortunes around when Brandon Cedillo broke through the Falcons’ defense and powered a shot through the back of the net in the 71’.
Central seemed to have all the momentum and had several good looks at the net but never managed to put the ball through. A particularly strong counterattack with less than ten minutes to go saw the Falcons score one more goal before the final buzzer sounded. The Bobcats fell 3-1.
After the game, Coach Vu spoke about his seniors. “I’ve already talked to a few of them. We wouldn’t be here without them. I’m proud of them and look forward to what lies ahead for some of these guys.”

The Bobcats finish the year with a 9-5-8 overall record. Central returns the majority of its roster next season and should be a force in the district next year.
