Dogs' Dynamic Duo Lead Miles to Victory over Forsan in Bi-District Playoff Game

ROBERT LEE— The Miles Bulldogs started their playoff run last night against the Forsan Buffalos 55-44.

The Bulldogs stood up and refused to lose against the Forsan Buffalos, who had a huge fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome a monster deficit.

Dynamic dogs duo, the Ellison Brothers, led Miles in scoring against the Buffalos with 23 points combined. The thing that really saved Miles was their ability to make free throws by going 23/36 from the foul line.

Things were in a dead lock in the first quarter where both team’s put up 12 points with seven Bulldogs putting points on the score board. Forsan’s Jake Myers caused Bulldog fans to lean forward in their seats a bit by sinking two three-point shots and making two free throws.

Where things started getting interesting when Miles went off for 19 points in the second quarter where the Ellison Brothers added 12 points together. Book and Dillon Medina chipped in seven points.

The Buffalos fell behind, only able to manage nine points in the second thanks to Huston Stockton, Weston Layman, and Brooks Wright.

At the half, the Miles Bulldogs led 31-21.

Coming out after the half things stayed relatively calm in the third. Bulldog’s big man Shelton Petry had six points which was double what Miles put up in the quarter. Points were tough to come by as Forsan only added four to the scoreboard and missed six free throws.

The fourth quarter rolled around and Miles kicked it into overdrive. Carson Ellison made six of eight free throws, Medina added five points and Ethan James and Jacob Vega put up four combined.

Forsan tried to comeback, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter to the Bulldog’s 16. Nic Holloway sank two three-point shots and Myers added another three to his total. Wright and Jackson Hopper put up six.

This isn’t the same Miles team that had trouble holding leads from the beginning of the year. Head Coach Jayson Wilhelm talked about learning how to win. Earlier in the basketball season, the Bulldogs were up against the Irion County Hornets in the fourth but ended up losing. Head Basketball Coach Gerald Butts has his team playing hard and they’ll certainly be a tough team to beat.
