COVER1 Hoops: Concho Valley Playoff Roundup

SAN ANGELO, TX — Several Concho Valley High School Basketball Teams played playoff matchups on Monday, Feb. 20, and several more have matchups on Tuesday night, Feb. 21. Here are the results from Monday's games and the preview for tonight.

MONDAY, FEB. 20

CHRISTOVAL 62 COLORADO CITY 59

It took overtime to decide this nail-biter. The lead changed back-and-forth between these two teams throughout the night, and only during overtime did Christoval finally pull away. Cougars’ Jaron Slaton hit a step-back three with less than a minute remaining and then stole the ensuing inbound pass to put the game away for Christoval.

NO. 4 IRION COUNTY 82 PAINT ROCK 12

The Hornets began their title run on Monday night at the Junell Center at Angelo State against Paint Rock. The 4th ranked team in 1A never trailed in this contest and won 82-12.

NO. 4 REAGAN COUNTY 93 ROSCOE 53

Another first-round mismatch saw the winners of District 7-2A (Christoval’s District) dismantle the Plowboys. Reagan County has an exciting opportunity in front of them. As the 4th ranked team in 2A, we could see the Owls in San Antonio.

MILES 55 FORSAN 44

The Bulldogs played a tough matchup in Robert Lee on Monday night. Forsan gave the Bulldogs all they had but fell in the end, 55-44. Miles moves on to the Area Round against Plains on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Location is still to be determined.

STERLING CITY 60 COLEMAN 50

The Eagles decisively beat the runner-up in District 8-2A Runner Up (Miles District). Coleman never overcame Sterling City’s advantage in the second half, and the Eagles advanced to the Area Round versus New Home. The date, time, and location are still to be determined.

BALLINGER LADY CATS 13 NO. 2 JIM NED 53

The Lady Cats squared off with their district opponents, the Lady Indians, on Monday night. Jim Ned beat Ballinger in their two previous meetings, and this one was no different. Although the Lady Cats fought hard, the No. 2 team in 3A would not relent and soundly defeated Ballinger 53-13. Jim Ned moves on to the Regional Semifinals tournament in Lubbock on Feb. 24-25.

TUESDAY, FEB. 21

SAN ANGELO CENTRAL VS EL PASO EASTWOOD

In a rematch of the football playoffs, the Central Bobcats travel to Alpine to play the Troopers at Sul Ross State University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

WALL VS INGRAM MOORE

The Hawks enter the playoffs looking to get back on track after losing their defacto district championship game against the TLCA Eagles. Ingram Moore should pose less of a threat to the Hawks, and Wall should win and advance. The game is in Sonora on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

TLCA VS BRADY

The Eagles play the Brady Bulldogs in the late game in Sonora following Wall’s matchup with Ingram Moors. Brady finished 4th in their district but has some talented players. The Eagles need to take care not to overlook Brady and show up on Tuesday night.

ROBERT LEE VS MENARD

The Steers play Menard on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Ballinger at 7:30 p.m.

BRONTE VS SANTA ANNA

Bronte plays its Bi-District matchup against Santa Anna on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Central High School in San Angelo at 7 p.m.

GIRLS

CHRISTOVAL VS NO. 2 NEW HOME

The Lady Cougars tip off their Regional Quarterfinal matchup in Stanton on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against New Home. New Home defeated the Eldorado Lady Eagles 63-34 in their Area Round contest, so the Lady Cougars should have their hands full.

MASON VS HARPER

The Cowgirls take on Harper High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for their Regional Quarterfinal matchup.

IRION COUNTY VS EDEN

The Lady Hornets look to match what the Boys did on Monday night as they take on the Lady Bulldogs at the Junell Center at Angelo State University in the Regional Quarterfinals at 6 p.m.

NO. 6 VERIBEST VS MENARD

The Lady Falcons play their Regional Quarterfinal matchup against Menard in Ballinger on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
