COVER1 Hoops: Girls Quarterfinals and Boys Preview

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — It’s playoff basketball season, and several Concho Valley High School basketball teams made the cut. The girls’ bracket moves into the Regional quarterfinal rounds this week while the boys begin playoffs. 

GIRLS REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL

1A

Irion County Lady Hornets

The Lady Hornets play Eden on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Junell Center at Angelo State University in San Angelo. The Lady Hornets advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals with wins over Paint Rock, 70-25, in the Bi-District Round, and Rankin, 61-37, in the Area Round.

Veribest Lady Falcons

The Lady Falcons play Menard on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. in Ballinger. The Lady Falcons advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals with wins over Santa Anna, 55-12, in the Bi-District Round, and Buena Vista, 53-27, in the Area Round.

2A

Christoval Lady Cougars

The Lady Cougars play New Home in Stanton at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Christoval advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals with wins over Coleman in the Bi-District Round and Wink in the Area Round.

2A Div II

Mason Cowgirls

The Cowgirls play Harper in Boerne at Champion High School on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. Mason defeated Charlotte in the Bi-District round and Skidmore-Tynan in the Area Round.

3A

Ballinger Lady Cats

The Lady Cats face another member of their district on Monday, Feb. 20, when they travel to Winters to take on Jim Ned at 7:45 p.m. Ballinger beat Blanco 50-29 in the Bi-District Round and City View 56-46 in the Area Round.

BOYS BI-DISTRICT

6A

San Angelo Central Bobcats

The Bobcats survived their play-in to claim the 4th seed in the playoffs last Saturday, Feb. 18, against the Midland High Bulldogs in Stanton. They travel to Alpine on Tuesday, Feb. 21, to play El Paso Eastwood at Sul Ross State University at 6 p.m. Eastwood is the team that bounced the Bobcats from the football playoffs, so this is an excellent opportunity for the ‘Cats.

Other matchups in the Little Southwest Conference include:

Odessa Permian vs. El Paso Franklin

Frenship vs. El Paso Americas

Odessa High vs. El Paso Cornado

4A

Levelland Lobos

The Lobos play Graham on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. in Anson.

3A

TLCA Eagles

The district champion TLCA Eagles play the Brady Bulldogs in Sonora on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m. Last Tuesday, the Eagles beat the Wall Hawks to claim the district title, 35-34.

Wall Hawks

Wall plays their Bi-District matchup against Ingram Moore in the early game on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Sonora, at 6 p.m.

2A

Christoval Cougars

The Cougars travel to Ballinger on Monday, Feb. 20, to play Colorado City. Christoval placed second in their district.

Miles Bulldogs

The Bulldogs play Forsan on Monday, Feb. 20, in Robert Lee at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated Coleman in their play-in last Friday to claim the one seed. Forsan placed fourth in Christoval’s district.

Sterling City Eagles

The Eagles play Coleman on Monday, Feb. 20, in Bronte at 6:30 p.m. Both these teams could have won their district, so this is a matchup to watch.

No. 4 Reagan County Owls

The Owls play Roscoe in their Bi-district matchup in Big Spring on Monday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. Reagan County won Christoval’s district with an unbeaten record. The Owls can make a deep run in the playoffs this year.

1A

No. 4 Irion County Hornets

The Hornets begin their title run on Monday, Feb. 20, in their Bi-District game against Paint Rock at the Junell Center at Angelo State University at 6 p.m. Irion County stayed in the top 10 all season and won their district. No one will be surprised to see the Hornets in San Antonio for the State finals.

Bronte Longhorns

Bronte plays its Bi-District matchup against Santa Anna on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Central High School in San Angelo at 7 p.m.

Robert Lee Steers

The Steers play Menard on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Ballinger at 7:30 p.m.
