SAN ANGELO, TX — Now that the Super Bowl is over and the Kansas City Chiefs claimed the championship, many fans are already feeling their post-football depression. Worry not, football fans, because we have two different spring football leagues to look forward to this year.
XFL
The revamped XFL kicks off this weekend, Feb. 18, starting at 2 pm on ABC. The Vegas Vipers face the Arlington Renegades at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Tx. Other opening weekend matchups include:
- Feb. 18: Orlando Guardians vs. Houston Roughnecks at TDECU Stadium at 7:30 pm on ESPN and FX.
- Feb. 19: St. Louis Battle Hawks vs. San Antonio Brahmas at the Alamodome at 2 pm on ABC
- Feb. 19: Seattle Sea Dragons vs. D.C. Defenders at Audi Field at 7 pm on ESPN.
The XFL successfully came back in 2020 before COVID-19 forced the season to be canceled.

USFL
The USFL played its inaugural season in 2022 following the conclusion of last year’s NFL season. The spring league experienced moderate success, successfully played their postseason, and crowned their champion, the Birmingham Stallions.
Here’s a look at what makes the USFL different from the NFL.
The USFL kickoffs its second season on Saturday, April 15, when the Memphis Showboats host the Philadelphia Stars at 3:30 pm at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis.
The USFL and Birmingham, AL leaders announced Monday that the 2022 Champion Birmingham Stallions would kick off their title defense Saturday, April 15, at 6:30 pm at Protective Stadium.
Spring Football has struggled to take a foothold in this country in years past, but with these two leagues’ new formulas, we might enjoy football year-round.
