SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats hosted their regular season finale against the Odessa High Bronchos in San Angelo on Tuesday, Feb. 14. A slow first half forced the Bobcats to play catchup throughout the contest and ultimately caused their downfall. Central loses its regular season finale at home 50-48.
The Bobcats started slow, falling behind early after a back-and-forth first quarter. Central had several good looks at the basket, but the shots just would not fall. Jacob English was the bright spot on Central’s offense with 8-first half points. The ‘Cats trailed at the break, 28-20.
Kollin Allbright showed out in the 3rd quarter with 8 points as the Bobcats roared back and erased their 8-point deficit. Central outscored Odessa High 16-8 in the 3rd quarter to tie the game. The Bobcats finally took the lead in the 4th quarter. Kollin Allbright continued to dominate the boards as he scored baskets off of offensive rebounds.
With less than a minute to go, the Bobcats sat even with the Bronchos 48-48. A lucky roll on the rim gave Odessa High the lead with just 11 seconds left. Central drove the basketball down the court before calling a timeout. After the inbound, the ‘Cats tried to get an open look to Hayden Schmidt, but the contested shot fell short, and time ran out. The Bobcats fell 50-48.
After the loss, the Bobcats drop out of second place. Depending on the results of the games around the district, Central will end up in 3rd, 4th, or 5th place. The results are still to be determined.
Kollin Allbright led the ‘Cats with 14 points, followed by Jaedyn Gipson with 11 points.
