Lady Hawks Head for Their Title Run

WALL, TX — The No. 16 Wall Lady Hawks (25-5) finished their 2022-23 Basketball campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Lady Hawks defeated the Merkel Badgers in Merkel 37-19.

They finished district play in second place at 11-3. The Jim Ned Lady Indians won the district championship when they finished a perfect, 14-0. Although the Lady Hawks did not win their district, they did earn the second seed in the playoffs.

The Bi-district round of the 2023 Texas UIL Basketball Championships is set for Monday, Feb. 13, against the Comfort Deer in Sonora at 7 p.m. Comfort finished in 4th place in their district at 2-5, barely sneaking into the playoffs. They have outscored their opponents 1,476 to 1,467 this season while losing several games by more than ten points.

The Lady Hawks have a favorable matchup in the first round but cannot overlook the threat Comfort poses. Sophomore Brylyn Watts should have a big game against Comfort as the Lady Hawks match up well with the opposition. Senior Kamryn Williams needs to control her opponents in the paint and not allow them free reign to the basket.

Come out and support the Lady Hawks as they pursue a state championship.
