SAN ANGELO, TX — The end of the 2022-23 Texas High School girls' basketball season is here, and the playoff matchups are set to begin. The San Angelo Central Lady Cats finished their district season on an eight-game winning streak in second place at 8-2.
The Lady Cats have the second seed going into the playoffs, where they will face the El Paso Pebble Hills Lady Spartans in Fort Stockton on Monday, Feb. 13, at 1 pm. The Lady Cats’ official Twitter account broke the date, time, and opponent on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 8.
The Lady Spartans finished their season with a 17-12 overall record and 12-4, good enough for 3rd place in their district. Pebble Hills was outscored 1,641 to 1,573 on their season, but they played serious powerhouses earlier in the season.
Central matches up well with the Lady Spartans on the court. Neither team is particularly impressive in size, but their speed is vital to their success. Head Coach Geter is confident that his ladies will have the advantage in this game if they play to the best of their ability.
Expect Nevaeh Hearne to lead the way for the Lady Cats in this one. Hearne averages more than 14 points per game this season and quietly leads Central in several other categories.
Alyssa Barron, Jewels Perez, and Sydney Moore should also make an impact on the outcome. Specifically, Moore’s defensive ability will make scoring difficult for the Lady Spartans.
