Legendary NFL QB Retires 'For Good'

TAMPA, FL — Tom Brady has retired from the NFL. The 23-year veteran and 7-time Super Bowl champion announced his retirement via social media on Wednesday morning, saying he is “retiring for good” and that he “wouldn’t change a thing” about his career.

Brady, 45, retired last season around this time before un-retiring and returning to football 40 days later. Brady posted a video on his Twitter announcing his retirement.

"I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I'd just press record and let you guys know first," Brady said in a video on Twitter. "I won't be long-winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year, so really, thank you guys so much to every single one of you for supporting me."

Tom Brady finished his career with seven super bowl wins, six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, five super Bowls MVPs, and multiple overall league records. Brady holds the record for most passing yards in NFL history with 89,214 yards and touchdown passes (649).

He informed the Buccaneers early this morning of his decision, and the organization met the announcement with an outpouring of love and gratitude for number 12.

Brady entered the NFL as a late draft pick with little to no potential, according to those who evaluated him before the 2000 draft. Backup quarterback to Drew Bledsoe on the Patriots, Brady finally got his chance to shine when he replaced Bledsoe after a shot to the ribs left him with internal bleeding. Brady impressed Bill Belichek so much that Belichek elevated Brady to the starting position, and the rest is history.

Tom Brady is widely considered the greatest quarterback ever to play the game, and the NFL will never be the same without him in the mix. He attracted followers and detractors with every championship he won, but even those who despise Tom Brady must respect his ability to lead, his skill, and hunger to win.
