Christoval Cougars Fall to Owls: Lady Cougars Dominate

CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Lady Cougars secured a big win over Reagan County while the Cougars fell short to the Owls.

On Tuesday, the Reagan County Owls traveled to Christoval to take on the Cougars and Lady Cougars. First up, the Lady Cougars beat the Lady Owls 74-41 and Halle Hughes had herself a night, scoring 23 points.

The Lady Cougars dominated the first quarter with Aaliyah Bogs sank two three-pointers while Mady Wipff made a three as well.  Jordyn Walker scored six points, Silva put up five, and Hughes started off the night with four points and two missed free throws, which would be the only two she missed all night.

The Lady Owls put up a fight while only scoring 15 in the first quarter.  Yasmine De La Cruz and Kennedy Roberts both hit two three-point shots and Morgan Dodd had two points. Add in De La Cruz’s free throw and after one, the Lady Cougars were in the lead 24-15.

Christoval’s Hughes caught fire in the second quarter, added 10 points to the scoreboard. Wipff made another three and Madyson George, Sienna Gonzales, and Braylee Silva each scored two in the second. The three-point success for the Lady Owls continued where Dodd and De La Cruz made three and one respectively. Only issue was that those were the only points the Lady Owls put up in the second quarter which made the score going in at halftime 43-27.

There wasn’t much scoring in the third quarter, but Christoval did add 11 while Reagan County added 8. Hughes had five, Gonzalez had two, and Walker had four. Dodd and De La Cruz continued their work, added two points each. Abby Turner and Maritza Castillo joined in and added two each as well. After three, the Lady Cougars were up 54-35.

The Lady Cougars did not stop there as Natalee Brooks added a three, George added six, Hughes put up four, and Bogs, Walker, and Silva made five free throws. This added 20 points to the score for the Lady Cougs.

The Lady Owls missed five free throws in the fourth quarter. De La Cruz did add two points. Ashley Lopez and Romero added two points apiece as well.

In the end, the Lady Cougars ran away with this one 74-41.
