In the second game featuring the boys, the Bobcats battled the Panthers in a back-and-forth slugfest for much of the contest. Permian surged to a seven-point advantage after the first quarter after they got out to a hot start shooting the basketball. The ‘Cats cold streak from Midland continued in the first quarter, as they only put up eight points.

Central’s fortunes changed in the second quarter when their defense came to life. Permian turned the ball over several times, and Shooting Guard Hayden Schmidt exploded with 10 points in the second. The Bobcats went from down seven in the first quarter to lead at halftime, 33-28.

Odessa Permian turned the game on its head again in the third quarter. After the Bobcats increased their lead to 12 midway through the third quarter, Permian could not miss a shot. G Jamibrione Anderson and Ben Saldivar took over the game, and the Panthers roared back to take a 5-point advantage entering the fourth quarter.

The Panthers never look back and claimed victory over the Bobcats 71-55. As good as the ‘Cats played at times, they could do nothing against the two shooters that just could not miss.

Hayden Schmidt led the Bobcats with 16 points.

Head Coach CJ Villegas gave his thoughts on his team's performance after the game.

The San Angelo Central Bobcats and Lady Cats return to action on Friday, Jan 20, when they travel to Midland to take on the Midland High Bulldogs starting at 6:15 p.m.
