Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Shows Signs of Improvement; Still in Critical Condition

CINCINNATI, OH — Doctors saw signs of improvement over the past two nights from Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin. However, Hamlin still remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, Jan. 4. 

Hamlin collapsed to the ground during the 1st quarter after a routine tackle on Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver Tee Higgins. The Buffalo Bills announced this morning that Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. Medical personnel had to administer CPR for several minutes before an ambulance took him to a local hospital. According to the Bills, Hamlin had his heartbeat restored on the field before transporting him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further treatment.

Jordan Rooney, a friend and marketing representative, told NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe that Hamlin, who spent the last two nights in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, remains sedated and in critical condition, but “things are moving in a positive direction.”

Ron Butler, Hamlin’s agent, said that doctors saw promising readings overnight that they hoped to see by Wednesday morning.

The Buffalo Bills will resume practice on Wednesday. The Bills announced that the team will hold meetings and conduct a walkthrough but will not be available to the media. 

The NFL suspended the matchup between the Bengals and Bills on Monday and has not made any changes to the Week 18 schedule.

The Bills will host the New England Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 8, at noon.

Hamlin's family released an official statement on Tuesday to thank the outpouring of love and support from around the country.
