Central Bobcats Undefeated in the Canyon Reef Classic

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats and Lady Cats participated in Christmas tournaments last week, Dec. 28-30. The Bobcats played in the Canyon Reef Classic hosted by the Snyder Tigers. The 'Cats went 4-0 in pool play throughout the weekend and won the tournament outright. The Lady Cats played in the MT Rice Tournament in Waco. Central played tough all weekend and went 2-2.

SAN ANGELO CENTRAL BOBCATS

The ‘Cats dominated the competition at the Canyon Reef Classic on Dec. 28-29. Central went 4-0 against quality opponents, pushing them to improve as they prepare for their district opener against Midland Legacy on Jan. 13. 

On Day One of the competition, the ‘Cats defeated Amarillo Caprock 69-42. Christian English and Dre Young led the Bobcats with 13 points. Kollin Allbright had 11 points.

Later in the day, on Day One, the ‘Cats soundly defeated the Snyder Tigers 68-36. Hayden Schmidt and Kollin Allbright led the Bobcats with 12 points.

On Day Two, Central squared off against Amarillo West Plains. The ‘Cats defeated the Wolves 63-49. Kollin Allbright put up 18 points. Christian English and Jaedyn Gipson followed with 14 points. 

The ‘Cats played an old rival in the Abilene Cooper Cougars in their final game. The ‘Cats overwhelmed the Cougars 42-34 to improve to 17-3 in the 2022 season. Christian English led the ‘Cats with 11 points. 

The San Angelo Central Bobcats return to action on Jan. 3 against the Trinity Christian Lions (14-6) at 6:15 at Central High School in San Angelo.

LADY CATS

The Lady Cats traveled to Waco to play in the MT Rice Tournament from Dec. 28-30. The Lady Cats went 2-2 on the weekend and went home and improved as a team. 

On Day One, the Lady Cats defeated Fort Worth Timber Creek 36-30. On Day Two, Central fell to Schertz Clemens 60-45. Later in the day, the Lady Cats played against a high school team from Australia. A tough defensive battle saw the ‘Cats fall 24-23, but playing a unit from a different country was a unique experience. 

On Day Three, the Lady Cats returned to the win column against Katy ISD's Mayde Creek, 51-23.

The Lady Cats travel to Stephenville on Tuesday, Jan. 3, to play the Honeybees at 6:15 p.m. at Stephenville High School.
