WALL, TX — Texas High School Football has nominated Wall Hawks’ Kicker Pierce Jameson for the Texas HS Football 3A Kicker of the Year Award. Jameson’s 2022 season has yet to come to an end as the Wall Hawks continue their deep playoff run.
In an exclusive interview with San Angelo LIVE!, Jameson talked about what this nomination meant to him.
“I’m feeling good about it, really, really good. It goes to show that hard work pays off. The thousands of kicks from over the years, all the camps I went to, and just learning how to master the art of kicking. I thank everyone who has helped me accomplish that. All the holders, long snappers, just everyone on the line blocking, and my dad. He was the main one who helped me through kicking,” he said.
Not every kicker dreams of playing that position growing up, but Jameson is different. “I played soccer from age four to eleven. People always called me “The Leg” because they saw I could kick really hard. I had one coach, JD Bales, who was watching one of our games, and he said I would be a kicker. He taught me how to kick, and I spent a lot of time inside their practice facility kicking.”
Jameson is efficient in the kicking game this season. He has hit almost 90% of all PATs attempted and is 6/8 on field goals. His field goal against Jim Ned earlier in the regular season ended up as the only points scored all game. Without his accurate kicking, the Hawks may have lost that game.
Despite the nomination, Jameson is still focused on this season. He and the Hawks travel to Sweetwater on Friday, Nov. 25, to play the Idalou Wildcats at 1 p.m. in the 3rd round of the playoffs. Jameson’s skill set might be just what the Hawks need to secure a victory this weekend.
