Lady Cats Place 3rd in the Pug Parris Classic in Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX — The San Angelo Central Girls’ Basketball team (4-3) played four games over the weekend, Nov. 17-19, in the Pug Parris Classic girls' basketball tournament. The Lady Cats went 3-1, only falling to the tourney winner, Jim Ned, and placed 3rd overall. Senior Point Guard Alyssa Barron was selected to the All-Tournament team. 

CENTRAL 59, SNYDER 37

The Lady Cats got off to a strong start on Thursday, Nov. 17, against the Snyder Tigers. Winning the game 59-37, the ‘Cats shot 48% from the field. Efficient 3-point shooting early in the game helped build a massive lead in the first quarter, 28-3. The Tigers never overcame the 25-point deficit, and the Lady Cats moved into the quarterfinals with a victory.

CENTRAL 41, V.R. EATON 27

The ‘Cats played the Eaton Eagles the following day, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. Alyssa Barron, Nevaeh Hearne, Jewels Perez, and Sydnee Moore all hit 3’s to give the ‘Cats a solid lead in the first half. Hearne also added a block and four steals defensively to secure the victory. The 41-27 win moved the Lady Cats into the semifinals.

CENTRAL 33, JIM NED 56

The Lady Cats faced off with an undefeated Jim Ned Indians squad later in the evening, Nov. 18, for a spot in the championship game. Central played tough all game but ultimately, 27% shooting from the field doomed the Lady Cats. They fell 56-33.

CENTRAL 43, WYLIE 36

Central played their final tournament game on Saturday, Nov. 19, against the Abilene Wylie Bulldogs. The ‘Cats started strong and led the entire game. Central’s most effective weapon, efficient 3-point shooting, wore down the Bulldogs, and the ‘Cats took 3rd place overall in the Pug Parris Classic.

 

The Lady Cats (4-3) return to action Monday night, Nov. 21, when they travel to Amarillo to take on the Amarillo Sandies (7-1) at 6 p.m. They then play the Lubbock High Westerners (6-1) on Tuesday, Nov. 22, in Lubbock at 6 p.m.
