SAN ANGELO – Angelo State University Basketball tips off this weekend, Nov. 11 and 12, for the 2022-23 season.
Mens
The Men’s Basketball team participates in the Lone Star Conference/Rocky Mountain Conference Challenge in Las Vegas, New Mexico, against the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys at 1 p.m. CST. They play their second game against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
The Rams debut their new head coach, Vinay Patel. Patel served as the head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, leading the Rangers to a 20-9 overall record. Before that, he spent four seasons at Oklahoma City University, putting together an 82-42 record. The Sooner Athletic Conference named him Coach of the Year in 2018 after a 24-9 record with the No. 8 ranked Stars.
The Rams finished with a 20-10 regular season record with a 9-6 mark in conference play. Picked 8th in the LSC preseason poll, the Rams have much to prove under coach Patel.
Womens
Angelo State University’s Women’s Basketball Team also starts their season on Nov. 11 and 12. They square off with the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners at Paul Right Gym in Gunnison, CO, at 5 p.m. CST on Friday. They play their second game against the Western Colorado Mountaineers at 8 p.m. CST on Saturday.
The Rambelles' 2nd-year head coach, Alesha Ellis, led them to a 15-13 regular season record and 12-4 in conference play. Picked 4th in the LSC preseason poll, there are high hopes for the Rambelles this season.
