Astros Win the World Series

HOUSTON, TX --- The Houston Astros are World Series Champions after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6 of the World Series Saturday night. It was a pitching duel for five innings until the Astros blew the game open in the bottom of the 6th inning. This is Houston’s second World Championship and Manager Dusty Bakers' first.

The Phillies scored first in the top of the 6th inning when Kyle Schwarber hit a 395-foot home run to right field. After that, the game looked favorable for the Phillies until the bottom of the 6th. First, Jose Altuve grounded into a fielder’s choice but reached 1st base safely. Jeremy Pena then singled to center field, moving Altuve to 3rd base. Then Yordan Alvarez stepped up to the plate and sent a moon-shot 450 feet to dead center for a 3-run homerun. After that, Alex Bregman walked to set up Christian Vazquez, who singled to left and scored Bregman.

Up 4-1 in the top of the 7th inning, the Astros’ defense held on and did not allow the Phillies to score again. Hector Neris, Bryan Abreu, and Ryan Pressley held off the Phillies’ offense to secure the victory. J.T. Realmuto singled in the top of the 9th, but the Phillies did not score. Kyle Tucker caught the final out in right field, and the celebration began.

The Astros went 11-2 in the 2022 postseason on their way to another championship. Rookie Jeremy Pena had a phenomenal postseason and was awarded the World Series Most Valuable Player Award. The rookie phenom played admirably throughout the postseason in times when even Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez struggled.

The Houston Astros dominated the competition sweeping the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS and the New York Yankees in the ALCS before dropping a game to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Astros give the greater Houston area another championship and notch their place among the Major League Baseball dynasties.
