San Angelo Central Bobcats Travel to El Paso for First Round Playoffs

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 5-5 (2-3 in district) San Angelo Central Bobcats defeated only Midland and Odessa in district play, ending the regular season in fourth place. This won them a playoff berth on Friday.

Central will travel to El Paso to face Eastwood High School Troopers (8-2)(7-1) on Friday, Nov. 11. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. MST.

According to the University Scholastic League (UIL) that regulates the football playoffs, “the top four teams from each district advance to the playoffs. The two schools with the largest enrollments automatically advance to the Division I bracket. The remaining two schools advance into the Division II bracket. There are two state champions per conference in Conference 6A.”

In San Angelo’s district, Permian faces El Paso Pebble Hills, Midland Legacy faces El Paso Franklin, and Wofforth Friendship faces El Paso Eastlake this week.

There are five rounds to the playoffs, each happening weekly, until the State Championships to be held Dec. 14-17.

According to the rules, the team of the two first round opponents with the best finish, in this case El Paso Eastwood, chooses the venue of the game. Eastwood chose Trooper Stadium located on the campus of Eastwood High School. The stadium has a capacity of 5,265 and was built in 1962. It is located 394 miles west of San Angelo Stadium. Tickets will be available online soon.
