Lake View Chiefs Hope to End Season on a High Note

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs (3-6)(0-3) host the Lubbock Estacado Matadors (5-4)(2-1) this Friday, Nov. 4, in their season finale at San Angelo Stadium in San Angelo at 7 p.m.

The Chiefs fell to the Big Spring Steers two weeks ago, 21-7, which eliminated them from playoff contention, but Coach Hector Guevara hopes to end the season for the seniors on a high note with a win.

Lake View faces a significant test on defense against an explosive Lubbock Estacado squad that fields several athletes that can turn any routine play into a touchdown. The Matadors run the spread offense so expect the Chiefs’ secondary to be busy all ball game. ILB Taven White leads the Chiefs with 111 tackles and two fumble recoveries. CB Michael Duran leads the team with four interceptions on the season but might add to that total on Friday.

Starting quarterback Bryce Medley has thrown 562 yards on 48/118 passing for four touchdowns this season. Leading receiver Davashtian Manley has caught 21 passes for 303 and three touchdowns. Coupled with Lake View’s potent running game, these two playmakers are critical for the Chiefs’ success.

Below is the full video of the press conference from Coach Guevara today.

The Chiefs are returning several players from injury after a week off from a bye week, including RB Ricky Ramirez. Ramirez is one part of the Chiefs’ two-headed monster in the running game that drove Lake View to its early season success. Ramirez has 73 carries for 541 yards and five touchdowns on the season. He is averaging a whopping 7.4 yards per carry, and his return might signal much-needed improvement for Lake View on the ground. Lake View’s other running back, Ian Cortez, has added 610 yards on 137 carries and five touchdowns.

Between the two, the Chiefs can control the time of possession against the Matadors and, ultimately, the flow of the game. Because the Matadors are so explosive, keeping their offense on the sidelines is essential if the Chiefs hope to win.
