High School Football is Back as Students Strap on Helmets for Summer Workouts

SAN ANGELO – Students across the state of Texas, and especially here in the Concho Valley, strapped on their helmets for the first time on Monday for the first workouts of the 2022 season.

The Central High School Bobcats started bright and early. Their work out start at 6:30 a.m. in San Angelo Stadium. Head Coach of the Bobcats Kevin Crane told San Angelo LIVE!'s Cover1 Crew prior to the start that they did this for more reason than one. The main reason though was because there is no better way to wake up then by playing football.

This year the Bobcats will be led by second year quarterback Tyler Hill and their highly explosive offense. Central will start the season on Aug. 26 in Killeen against Shoemaker. Prior to that they have a scrimmage against Lubbock Coronado.

Another team looking to kick start another year is the Christoval Cougars. This team is in an all new district and will face a new opponent nearly every week. With that Head Coach of the Cougar Coach Casey Otho says that he knows the importance on this year's summer workouts.

When asked on how his team would be this year Otho says they will be tough as ever. "We're going to play hard and give great effort," said Coach Casey Otho. "That's what we live for and that's what we hang our hat on. We try to play without the scoreboard. when the game is over we'll flip it on and see how it turned out."

Christoval will kick its season off with everyone's favorite rivalry "The Battle of 277" against the Eldorado Eagles. Normally this game is played for a district championship but thanks to realignment  this will only be a regular season game. Nonetheless it is expected to be just as exciting and every year.
