The Crimson Tide Take on the Bulldogs for the CFP National Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The #1 Alabama Crimson Tide take on the #3 Georgia Bulldogs in a game dubbed “The Rematch” tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Back on December 4, 2021, the Bulldogs lost to Alabama 41-24 in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. Georgia had been ranked #1 leading up to the final rankings.

It has happened 5 times in college football history where two teams met in the regular season and then had national championship implications. So far, every game has favored the loser of the 1st matchup.

This is also the 1st rematch for a national title under the College Football Playoffs as well.

In 2018, Georgia fans will remember the walk-off 41-yard pass from then Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith in overtime to win Alabama’s 5th national title under Head Coach Nick Saban.

Both Alabama and Georgia are 13-1. The Crimson Tide dropped the Texas A&M game in Week 6 38-41 and the Bulldogs lost the SEC Championship game to ‘Bama 41-24.

In the Semifinals, again, both teams blew out their playoff opponent as the Bulldogs downed the Michigan Wolverines 34-11 and the Tide stomped the Cincinnati Bearcats 27-6.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young leads the Tide’s offense with 4,503 passing yards, 46 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. Georgia may want to take note as Young has been sacked 35 times over the season.

Alabama running backs have been solid and Brian Robinson Jr. is no different. His 249 attempts have gone for 1,275 yards and 14 touchdowns. Against Cincinnati, Robinson Jr. had 204 yards on 26 attempts.

The Crimson Tide has also put out some great receivers under Saban and both Jameson Williams and John Metchie III have 1,507 and 1,142 yards respectively and 23 touchdowns combined.

Defensively, Will Anderson Jr. has 17.5 sacks helping Alabama amass 52 on the season. Sophomore Brian Branch leads the Tide in interceptions with 9.

The Bulldogs had quarterback JT Daniels transfer from USC in 2020 only to ultimately start Stetson Bennett after Daniels was injured. Bennett has 2,638 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions in 5 games whereas JT Daniels, over the same number of games, has only 722 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Bennett has also played in the SEC Championship against Alabama and in the playoffs against Michigan.

Georgia running backs Zamir White and James Cook have 257 carries, 1,423 yards, and 17 touchdowns between the two. Jermaine Burton, Ladd McConkey, and Adonai Mitchell lead the wide receivers. Freshman tight end Brock Bowers has 52 receptions, 846 yards, 12 touchdowns and has been Bennett’s favorite target this season.

The Bulldogs defense has 52 interceptions this season being led by Lewis Cine and Latavious Brini with 8 and freshman Kelee Ringo with 7. Getting to the quarterback has been a little difficult for one player to stand out for Georgia. Nakobe Dean and Robert Beal Jr. have 6 and 5.5 respectively. The Bulldogs edge the Tide out for forced fumbles as Georgia has 10 to Alabama’s 4.
