Grape Creek Football Team Recognized by County Commissioners for First Ever District Title

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County Commissioner's Court celebrated the Grape Creek Eagle's Football Team on Tuesday for its historic 2021 season.

This year the Eagles went 5-6 overall but were 4-1 in district allowing them to share the district championship. This was the first time in school history that Grape Creek won the championship.

Grape Creek's Commissioner, Rick Bacon, presented the team and head coach, Tanner Thiel, with a certificate congratulating the team on their accomplishment.

Grape Creek went on to lose to Alpine in the first round of the playoffs 27-14. 

This year's team received a number of awards including the staff winning the district's coaching staff of the year, running back Isaiah Briones being named Co-Offensive MVP, Collin Humphrey being named first team TE and first team inside linebacker, Dante Huerta being named a first team offensive lineman, Colton Walker, Jr. being named first team defensive back and first team kicker, and Colton Rumsey being named a first team defensive tackle.
