SAN ANGELO, TX – Angelo State University Head Football Coach Jeff Girsch was selected as the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) 2021 NCAA DII Region Four Coach of the Year, announced by the organization on Monday.

The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association's five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA. The winners are selected by Active members of the Association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.

The Rams finished the 2021 campaign with an 11-3 overall record, advancing to the quarterfinals of the national tournament for the second time in program history and the first time since the 1989 season. In just three years as head coach, Girsch has turned a program that finished 6-6 in 2018, into a championship caliber team.

The AFCA will announce the 2021 National Coaches of the Year winners in FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA on Monday, January 10. The Regional winners in each division are finalists for National Coach of the Year.
