SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Central Bobcats will be facing an additional obstacle on Thursday night as their starting running back has been added to the injury reserve list.
According to family members starting RB and workhorse for the Bobcats, Samuel Navarrette, will not be allowed to play against the Midland Bulldogs, on Oct. 7, after not completing the concussion protocol.
Navarette left the game early last week against the Odessa Bronchos after taking a hit to the head. He did not return to the game and was then placed under the protocol.
The family stated in a Facebook Post that Navarette has been to a doctor who claims he was not concussed at all.
"I have been doing lots of reading since our Dr.Appointment yesterday that determined he did NOT suffer a concussion last week and was released to play," stated the family members. "The new HB2038-“Natasha Law” has rendered us helpless and he will have to miss a game due to these miscommunications and the new Protocol for the law."
The post continued by showing support for Navarette and the Bobcats.
"His brain and his safety will always trump everything for us, because of his love for the game. This is just very unfortunate for Samuel and his team," stated the family member. "Thanks to all of my family and friend for supporting our boy through this crazy and awesome season! It means the world to us!"
Navarrette takes the majority of hand offs for the Central Bobcats. Now they will move to RB2 Darius Floyd and lean on QB Tyler Hill in hopes for their first win of the district season.
