Angelo State University Rams Take First Loss

CARY, NC – The Angelo State Rams lost their first game to the Wingate Bulldogs.

The Rams lost 5 – 4 after a lengthy rain delay in the bottom of the 9th inning.

Wingate hit the ground running starting off quickly with 2 home runs in the 3rd and 4th innings that gave them a 4-0 lead.

It was a valiant effort but too little too late for the Rams as they scored their first points in the 8th inning. The Rams did tie the game in the top of the 9th at 4-4.

The 9th inning rolled around and a storm reared its ugly head. The bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded, the count was 2-2 with 2 outs and then the storm hit.

Rain was coming down so hard you could barely see the field at one point. Enough to send both teams and both coaching staffs out to help the grounds crew cover the field.

The delay ended and Wingate hit a single that sealed the game 5-4.

The Rams are scheduled to play at 1:00 p.m. Friday against Wingate again in an elimination game.

Central Missouri lost to Tampa 8-1 and will play again at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

Should the Rams win, they'll play the winner of Central Missouri/Tampa in the Championship.
