SAN ANGELO, TX – A former Central Bobcat has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
When the draft is over, NFL teams start calling the other players on their draft board who didn't get selected during the draft. Some times, several teams call and the player gets to choose which team to sign with.
Former San Angelo Central Bobcat and Texas Tech defensive end Eli Howard didn't hear his name called through the three day event, but at least one team called when it was all said and done.
Eli Howard signed with the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday.
Over the 2020 season, Howard had 3 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 1 pass defended. Overall, he had 20 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 8 passes defended, and 2 fumble recoveries in his career at Tech. He was also a two time team captain.
Atlanta is a really good choice. Currently on their defensive line they have a bunch of journeymen players. Grady Jarrett is a key piece to the line but outside of him, Dante Fowler Jr. and Barkevous Mingo are the only noteworthy players. Fowler is in the last year of his deal and Mingo signed a one year deal.
Picking Atlanta was a heads up move and Howard is going to have a chance to continue making a name for himself.
