NFL Free Agency with the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans

HOUSTON, TX – The NFL 2021 free agency has begun.

The Houston Texans are pretty busy on day one.

Houston has added former first round pick Mark Ingram on a one year deal. Ingram started off his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints and played the last couple years with the Ravens.

The Texans have also agreed to deals with offensive lineman Justin Britt, linebacker Christian Kirksey, linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, special team ace Andre Roberts, and re-signed Vernon Hargreaves.

The Texans have found themselves involved in a few trades as well. They’ve traded linebacker Benardrick McKinney to Miami for linebacker Shaq Lawson, who plays on the outside in a 3-4 assuming the Texans keep that scheme. The Texans and Dolphins have also exchanged late round picks.

Houston has also traded for offensive tackle Marcus Cannon from the Patriots. Guess they haven’t heard to never make a deal with Bill Belichick.

(Trades don’t become official until Wednesday, March 17th.)

The Cowboys have not been as busy. In recent years, the Cowboys haven’t been big spenders in free agency. They’ve taken a much more slow approach, filling needs with veterans but not willing to break the bank. Instead choosing to resign players already on the roster.

Some could say the Cowboys have already won free agency by signing quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott would’ve been one of the best players available had he not been signed.

By signing Dak, the Cowboys have lowered the salary cap hit from ~$37M to ~$22M so they do have some space to sign some players. Look for these deals later in the week or next week.

Related news, Cam Erving, who was recently the Cowboys back-up tackle, did agree with the Panthers today which could affect Dallas’ draft plans. Honestly, tackle is one of the positions Dallas needs to keep an eye one going forward.
