ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Independent School District has decided to postpone summer workouts after a COVID-19 exposure within the girls volleyball and basketball.
According to KTXS, on June 28, Abilene ISD Chief Communications Officer Lance Fleming confirmed that the girls volleyball and basketball teams at Abilene High School and Cooper were possibly exposed last week to two individuals who tested positive for COVID-19.
"Neither of the individuals who tested positive are associated with the Abilene ISD and the possible exposure didn’t occur at an AISD facility," said Lance Fleming, Chief Communications Officer for AISD. "Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel summer workouts for girls team at both schools this week and resume again July 13."
Also in Abilene, Wylie ISD canceled their summer workouts for volleyball, girls basketball and boys basketball after player were possibly exposed to the virus.
Abilene has 352 total positive cases with 74 of those cases being currently active as of June 28.
San Angelo ISD at this point is continuing summer workouts with social distancing protocols in place.
San Angelo has 358 total positive cases with 164 of those cases being currently active as of June 28.
