Odessa College Cancels Women's Basketball Season

ODESSA, TX – The Odessa College women’s basketball program announced Thursday the school is furloughing the program for the 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19.

According to CBS7, in addition to the “unprecedented developments of the COVID-19 pandemic”, the program has not hired a new coaching staff after former head coach Ara Baten left for South Plains College last month.

According to the school, the four women’s basketball players currently on the roster will be granted releases to attend and play at other institutions. They also have the option to remain at Odessa College and have their existing scholarships honored.

The Lady Wranglers were 23-9 this past year and qualified for the NJCAA Tournament before the season ended due to the pandemic.

According to the school, the Lady Wranglers will return for the 2021-2022 season.
