San Angelo ISD's Athletic Director Brent McCallie Announces Retirement

SAN ANGELO, TX –  After an incredible career as a coach, educator, and administrator, San Angelo ISD’s Executive Director of Athletics Brent McCallie has announced his retirement.

During his 5-year career with San Angelo ISD, Coach McCallie’s accomplishments include being named Region 2 Athletic Administrator of the Year by the Texas High School Athletic Director’s Association (THSADA) in 2018 and serving as THSADA Regional Director in 2016 - 2018.

Coach McCallie has spent 37 years as an educator. During his 25 years at Dumas ISD, McCallie first served as Assistant Coach for football and baseball as well as Head Coach for track. From 2003 to 2008, McCallie served as Athletic Director for Dumas ISD. McCallie then served as Athletic Director for Canyon ISD before coming to San Angelo ISD to serve as Executive Director of Athletics in 2015.

McCallie will be remembered as the cool hand behind sweeping changes in San Angelo, particularly with the San Angelo Central Bobcats. Central High School was thrown into a district in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex for the 2018 season, facing teams like Euless-Trinity and Hurst LD Bell by the UIL. Two years later, Central is back in the Little Southwest Conference again with familiar rivals like Odessa Permian and Midland Lee.

McCallie hired Lake View Head Coach Hector Guevara during the summer months of 2017 who has put the Chiefs' football program on a path towards improvement in 4A competition.

McCallie also oversaw the largest San Angelo football game in recent history when the Central Bobcats hosted the Allen Eagles for the Class 6A Division I regional semifinal in November 2016 in front of about 19,000 fans. The stadium was built for 14,500. The game was hard fought by the Bobcats through the first half, but the miserable cold and rain got the best of the Bobcats after the star quarterback Cal Vincent was injured and Allen prevailed 34-21.

McCallie will be remembered for recruiting great coaches and guiding all district athletics programs towards excellence during his five-year tenure here.
