Rockwall Who? Duncanville Makes Powerful Statement In State Semifinal
MCKINNEY, TX — 29 plays, 314 yards, and 35 points in the first half alone.
Duncanville came out not only ready to play but to make a statement. They won the opening coin toss, elected to receive, and two plays later senior running back Trysten Smith sliced his way through the middle of the Rockwall defense for a 74 yard touchdown.
Smith finished the game with 141 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries. His lethal combination of power and speed make him one of the most exciting players to watch and one of the hardest to play against. A game changing playmaker in his own right, Smith is one of several weapons Duncanvile can go to with ease.
Four different players scored touchdowns in the first 12 minutes of action Saturday, and they were all from 50+ yards. Smith had his 74 yarder, and then 6'3, 270 pound Tyler Quinn intercepted a running back screen on Rockwall's first snap. He returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. Roderick Daniels had a 72 yard jet sweep score, and then 4-star Texas Longhorn commit Ja'Quinden Jackson kept a read option up the middle for a 59 yard TD.
The game ended 56-14, and you can read a full drive by drive recap of it here.
Arguably the biggest news from the game was an injury Jackson suffered late in the second quarter up 35-0. On a short run inside, Jackson took a brutal hit to his left knee. The star signal caller was looked at on the field by athletic trainers for a while before eventually being helped off the field and taken immediately to the locker room.
He returned to the sideline later with a heavy ice wrap on the knee, crutches, and a Duncanville hoodie where his shoulder pads would be. Early indications suggest a torn ACL for the senior.
His replacement, freshman Chris Parson, threw a 36 yard touchdown pass and added a 38 yarder on the ground in the second quarter. He will be a huge question mark when they take on North Shore in a rematch of last year's 6A DI classic.
North Shore defeated Lake Travis 49-38 later on Saturday, making them one win away from repeating as champs.
The Championship is set for Saturday, December 20 at 3:00 in AT&T Stadium.
