LAS VEGAS, NV — Ty Harris maintained his position in the top three worldwide rankings for tie-down roping despite not finishing "in the money" Wednesday night.
Harris clocked in with a time of 10.00 which was the seventh best of the night. Only the top six receive a purse, and Harris was just 0.20 behind the sixth place Haven Meged.
The best time of the National Finals Rodeo's seventh round belonged to Tyler Milligan. He had a 7.50 and was followed by Adam Gray and Tuf Cooper who had a 7.70 and 8.20, respectively. Shane Hanchey, who has a comfortable lead as the world's #1 ranked tie-down roper, finished in 12th with a time of 17.50.
Hanchey still has a $27,200.17 lead over the now second place Riley Pruitt. Pruitt finished in fourth Wednesday with an 8.40 and earned $11,000. He now has $182,727.52. Hanchey has $209,927.69.
Harris is now in 3rd place after making the leap from 11th place to 2nd in just two days. He sits just $1,462.92 above Haven Meged with $173,437.91. Meged has $171,974.99. There are three other cowboys below Meged that have over $165,000, so it is a very tight race.
The action will continue Thursday with the final two rounds on Friday and Saturday.
