MIDLAND, TX — Midland Lee has had an incredible run this 2019 season. The Rebels have gone from 9-3 and a second round playoff exit last year to 11-1 and a third round pairing with Texas juggernaut Southlake Caroll.
One of the biggest reason's for their success has been the lights out play of their offense. They have scored 671 points this season and average 56 per game. In their worst offensive showing they still put up 35.
Loic Fouonji has been the x-factor. The 6 foot 4 inch, 194 pound receiver is a consensus four-star wide receiver and has been targeted by colleges across the country for his size and athleticism.
But as of this week, coaches at Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Oklahoma State, Baylor, SMU, Kansas, Indiana, Colorado, Arizona, and Arkansas will have to find someone else. Fouonji is going to be a Red Raider.
Fouonji announced his decision on Twitter Monday morning saying, "I would like to thank God for blessing me with opportunities to be and to do something great in life. I would also like to thank my family and friends who have guided me through everything and who have helped me get to the place I am today. Thank you to all the coaches who have recruited me and given me the opportunity to play at the next level. Many connections and relationships have been built through this process and I am very thankful for that. It's been a long journey with the help of my family and those close to me. With that being said, I would officially like to announce that I have committed to Texas Tech University. #GunsUp"
Fouonji is ranked by 247Sports as the 18th best wide receiver recruit in the nation and the 16th best player in the state of Texas. He is Texas Tech's highest rated commit in their 2020 class.
He has 68 catches for 1,425 yards and 22 touchdowns for Lee this season and needs to play a huge role if the Rebels plan to upset the undefeated Southlake Carroll Dragons Saturday evening. San Angelo Live and Cover1 will be in attendance for that game and will be covering it.
