GARLAND, TX — The Water Valley LadyCats advanced to the Class 1-A State Volleyball Semifinals for the second year in a row following their five set win against Bronte last Saturday. In that game, Water Valley had control after winning the first two sets 25-19 and 25-11, but they lost the next two by two and six points, respectively. They escaped in the fifth with a competitive 16-14 win.
The Bronte game was by far the closest win they have had so far this postseason. Water Valley, who is 31-12 this season, cruised by Strawn, Vernon Northside, and Lamesa Klondike in three sets each. Now, they will face Round Top-Carmine Wednesday in the semifinals in Garland for a chance to play in the championship and avenge last year's championship loss to Neches.
Round Top-Carmine, 21-11, has not played a fourth set in their run to Garland, beating Runge, Austwell-Tivoli, D'Hanis, and Fayetteville in three sets.
The first serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will play the winner of Neches/Blum. That game takes place at 11:00 a.m., directly before Water Valley's.
Water Valley is looking for their third State Championship. The other two came in 1986 and 2011.
You can live stream the game on the NFHS website.
