SAN ANGELO, TX — The Ballinger Bearcats are coming to San Angelo tonight to play the TLCA Eagles in both teams' final game of the regular season. Ballinger will be looking to win their eighth game of the year and a higher playoff seed, but they won't need any more motivation to play well besides the return of senior Peter Alfaro.
Alfaro, a running back and defensive back for the Bearcats, was diagnosed with the rare muscular cancer Low-Grade Fibromyxoid Sarcoma. Alfaro was able to play in their first four games this season, but left the team in late September in order to travel to Houston for treatment. Friday night, Alfaro will return for the first time since the Cisco game to cheer on his teammates. The TLCA Athletic Booster Club also announced Friday that half of all proceeds from the night's concession sales will be donated to Peter and his family.
The booster club made the following Facebook post Friday morning, "Half of our proceeds that we make tonight in our concession stand will go to help Peter Alfaro’s medical expenses. Peter is a senior on the Ballinger Bearcats football team and he was recently diagnosed with a rare form of muscle cancer."
Fans of both teams can rally behind this worthy cause and show Alfaro support.
The TLCA concession stand will also be offering a free hot chocolate to military members and veterans.
