WATCH: Last Second Stand by Espinosa Pushes the Lake View Chiefs to 1-0

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The Lamesa Golden Tornadoes went home upset and sore after the Lake View Chiefs defense destroyed them. 

Lake View started the game by kicking off the ball. Lamesa took the ball up to the 21 yard line. 

The Chief defense started early by forcing a three and out. After the punt, the Chiefs started their drive on the 30 yard-line. 

The first drive did not go well for the chiefs as a sack on the first few plays left them in punting position.

The following drive Johnney Espinosa, intercepted the ball from Kason Simms and put them in what should have been scoring position. The Chiefs did not score due to a late sack on third down. They did go for it on fourth but did not get it. 

The next drive the Chiefs defense did it again. This time Brandon Herrera intercepted the ball and took it to the 44 yard line. This time QB Albert Rodriguez was able to find Beau Parker for a 25 yard pass to put them on the three yard line. Rodriguez was able to pound the ball in himself. Chiefs led at the end of the first quarter 7-0 

The first drive of the second quarter for the Tornadoes seamed very familiar for the Lamesa QB. He threw his third interception of the game and this time it ended up for a touchdown. Anthony Mendez snagged the ball on the 21 yard line and took it in to increase their lead to 12-0. 

The next drive is when defensive lineman Zeke Davila took over the trenches. He managed to get three sacks in the first half and two of those were on this drive. This is when they began rolling on the tornadoes and managed to force another punt. 

"Zeke is one of the smartest students in the school." said Coach Guevara. "He just knows how to put himself in the right position on the field."

The final drive of the half for the Chiefs started with a little over two minutes. The drive had one goal and that was get the ball to Espinosa. He had two big catches for over 25 yards. He eventually got them to the goal line and Rodriquez found Bryce Medley for a six-yard touchdown. They lead at the half 19-0. 

The opening kick-off went to the chiefs and Espinosa decided he didn't want to play offense first after he ran it in for a 88-yard touchdown. Chiefs led 26-0.

After this many people began to wonder if the tornadoes showed up. They answered these doubters by putting up their first score of the ball game. Lamesa's Robert Rodriguz caught a short stop route and broke a few tackles to bust open a big play for the tornadoes. Lamesa trailed 26-6. 

Espinosa saw the big kickoff he ran, the tornadoes answer with the long touchdown, and came back with another one of his own. He caught a 45-yard bomb from Rodriguez after he ran it for 20 yards. This brought the score to 32-6. 

"Espinosa is great for us to feed off of," said Coach Guevara of the Lake View Chiefs. "He is very unselfish and helps out where he can."

Lamesa then began to figure out how to run on the chiefs. Cave Rodriguez cut up the defense and pounded his way into the end-zone for the score and the two points to bring the score to 32-14. 

The Chief offense past this point ran dry. A quick three and out gave the Tornadoes the ball before the end of the quarter. They drove the ball all the way down but looked to the be stopped on fourth near the 10-yard line. A facemask penalty took them to the end of the third quarter with only one yard to go for a touchdown. Chiefs led going into the fourth 32-14. 

 The first play of the quarter was a touchdown by Lamesa. Rodriguez was able to push and get the one yard they needed. This closed the gap to 32-22. 

The second play of the quarter was an on-side kick that was recovered by the Tornadoes. The chiefs pushed starting plays to third down but a pass by Simms to Josh Marquez got them the first down. The drive was pushed to a stop after Davila got his fourth sack of the day that pushed them to a fourth and long. Unfortunately Marquez was able to get open on the outside and caught a 25-yard touchdown. Tornadoes were crawling back with the score being 32-30. 

Lake View looked as if they were going to score after two long pass plays that set them up the red zone but Rodriguez threw his first interception late in the game to Lamesa's Devin Ruiz. 

Lamesa got a few first down that drive but after a late holding call they were stopped by the Chiefs. They were forced to punt but the Chiefs received a holding flag so was forced to take the ball on the 12-yard line. Due to bad field position they were forced to punt. 

The Tornadoes took the ball and drove it all the way down the field after multiple passes to Martinez. The Chiefs finally got the stop after fourth and goal on the three yard line. Chiefs win 38-30.

"It shows a lot how well our team stook together late in the game." said Guevara

Rodriguez threw 6/14, 277 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. 

Espinosa had 143 yards catching, three total touchdowns, and one interception.
